LG’s GT350 makes the KS360 look like a punk

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

LG Neon and KS360 owners, avert your eyes, because seriously — this thing might be like a knife through your fragile heart. Complementing the GD880 announcement today, LG’s showing the full-QWERTY GT350 with a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen that works throughout the UI, unlike the limited-function touch employed by its predecessor — and just to twist that knife a little harder, they’ve gone from a 3-row keyboard layout to four. It’s got Facebook and Twitter integration built-in with direct social networking access straight from the keyboard (good to see they’re putting that extra row to use) along with push email and support for multiple accounts — perfect for the young’un who isn’t Truly ready for a boring smartphone that’s had all the life and joy sucked out of it. Like the KS360, this one will be available in a diversity of colors — blue, purple, silver, and black to start — when it launches in Europe come April.

GSM DROID with multitouch pinch-to-zoom demoed on video hating America

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

The GSM flavor of Motorola’s DROID, or Milestone as it will be known in Europe, has multitouch built-in to the UI. For reasons we can only assume have something to do with an unspoken intellectual property agreement between Google and Apple, the US version of the user interface lacks multi-touch features like pinch-to-zoom even though the underlying 2.0 OS supports multitouch events. However, the video of a GSM DROID headed to Europe clearly shows this feature at the 3 minute mark. No really, see for yourselves after the break.

LG Arena Max gets WiFi certification, sounds way more extreme than Arena

Friday, December 18th, 2009

LG’s Arena was one of the more important non-smartphone handsets of 2009, if for no other reason than the fact that it introduced the world to LG’s latest standard user experience, S-Class. Of course, it was introduced all the way back in February — a lifetime by mobile standards — which means that it’s about time to re-up with a shiny replacement. It sounds like that might come in the form of an “Arena Max” model, thanks to a fresh certification in the Wi-Fi Alliance’s database pointing to an LU9400 model going by that name. Specs are anyone’s guess at this point, but we can probably expect a big, stonking camera, a full-touch UI, and — you guessed it — WiFi.
