Nokia’s Indian outpost has declare that it’ll be offering the hotly anticipated top-of-the-line N96 there starting next month, and in the meantime, about 2,000 stores across the country have been authorized to start accepting pre-orders. By and large, this N96 seems to be the same one everyone else will be getting — but one India-exclusive feature will be Wave Secure, an S60 app designed to give owners some semblance of peace of mind by backing up their Dat. to the cloud and enabling device tracking if their precious payload is lost or jacked. It’s a hot phone, no question about it — 16GB of onboard storage plus the capability for microSD expansion is nothing to sneeze at — but without a 3G network to latch onto, seems like it could be a tough sell if the price isn’t right.

One of the great joys of unboxings is being able to appreciate a product from afar that — let’s be honest — you have no business buying yourself. Take, for example, LG’s tantalizing Secret slider, a phone that would definitely get the job done in many parts of the world — but if you find yourself trapped in North America, the lack of HSDPA and GSM 850 make it a tough sell, despite the mere 11.8mm of depth and 5 megapixel autofocus cam with face detection. Fortunately, we’ve got enough photography over on Engadget Spanish to get the Secret mostly out of our system, so go on, have a look!

One of Nokia’s upcoming business-class handsets, the svelte E66 slider, has garnered FCC approval ahead of a launch that we’ve got to believe is happening in the very near future at this time. That’s the good news; the bad news is that there’s zero North American 3G involved from what we can see in the test reports. That would make this one a tough sell for existing E65 customers in the States, we think, especially considering that prerelease units haven’t been seen sporting Feature Pack 2. Ah well — the E67, perhaps, Nokia?

Update: Disaster averted! Turns out there’s another E66 lurking in the FCC’s midst that trades HSDPA 2100 for 850 / 1900. Thanks, Jim!
