It’s a beautiful autumn day, and you’re out in the wooded path beyond the railroad tracks just taking it all in and killing some time. Hey, what’s that? Why, it’s the cutest bunny rabbit you’ve ever seen! Time to pull out that 8-megapixel C905 and… oh, this sucks, you actually have to press a button to zoom in and out! Screw this noise — you’re a visionary photographer, not a manual laborer. Happily, Sony Ericsson feels your pain, and a new patent application reveals that they’re hard at work on a system to control your cameraphone’s zoom level clearly by moving it back and forth. Just get the phone closer to the subject, and boom, welcome to telephoto city, population one. We’re still totally cool with the old-fashioned way of capturing Pulitzer-winning shots, but we’re happy that someone’s thinking of this type of stuff so we don’t have to — that’d be work.

We’re going down our “things that absolutely must change on the iPhone” list, and yeah, “redo the Safari toolbar” isn’t anywhere on there. Not even at the very bottom. Cupertino works in mysterious ways, though, and they’ve decided in firmware 2.2 that it’s time to muck with the positioning of the text boxes so that the address bar and search bar Bot. appear at all times without needing to first tap in the area. They’ve also moved the refresh button inside the address bar itself, which should truly revolutionize our browsing experience yet again. Apple, screw copy / paste — we’re officially stoked.

A frequently-asked questions list apparently recently distributed to Apple retail store employees doesn’t reveal a ton of exciting new information, but it does address the simple reality that neither Apple nor AT&T are entirely sure yet how the hell they’re plan to complete the activation process for iPhone 3G customers come July 11. If a customer asks about how activation is plan to work — something we’ve previously said might be able to be finalized from the comfort of your home — staffers are instructed to clearly reply “I don’t have any details at this time about activation.” Well, screw you too, Mr. / Mrs. / Miss Apple Store Employee! Also funny is Apple’s prognostication (a correct one, we’d bet) that shoppers will be curious about the iPhone / iPod touch price matchup, to which the response is “iPhone 3G is offered at such a terrific price because, like most cellular phones, it requires a 2-year carrier contract.” There’s Truly a bit of reading material in in this place, including details on multi-phone activation for businesses — so it’s worth a quick read if you’re into that sort of thing.
