Hey, hey, just as expected out pops Sony Ericsson’s latest Walkman from the rumor mill. The quad-band W705 (aka RIKA, the G705 clone) with UMTS/HSPA 900/2100 support shares the same Clear Bass / Clear Stereo audio quality found in the W980 Walkman while packing DLNA-certified WiFi, shake control and SensMe music manipulation, a “large” (uh, hardly by today’s standards) 2.4-inch display, 4GB of bundled memory card storage, an FM radio, 3.2 megapixel camera, Google Maps, and an accelerometer for what’s quickly becoming a ubiquitous auto-rotating display feature on cellphones. It also packs Bluetooth, allowing it to stream audio out to the newly declare MBS-900 Bluetooth speaker. You know, if you’re a fan of compressed audio and short battery life. Just sayin’s all. Bot. will be available in chosen markets as of Q1 of the new year.

The uncertainty of trying to predict precisely when — and where — Sony Ericsson’s beastly X1 would launch has come to be one of the more entertaining dramas in the mobile world this year, but it seems like Vodafone’s ready to shut down the rumor mill. The Windows Mobile superphone has at this time been slapped with an “expected” launch Dat. in October for Voda’s UK audience, which means we can probably expect it in at least a few other European locales in the same timeframe. Americans (of Bot. the South and North diversity), Asians, Africans, Australians, and Antarcticans, though — well, there’s no telling where you guys stand at the moment, so hang tight.

The rumor mill promised us that the Motorola W388 would be nothing worth writing home about, and we’ve got to hand it to the mill — it was spot-on this time around. Mobil.cz appears to have scored the first shot we’ve seen of the new low-end candybar, and while the design’s positively retro, the microSD slot is still a notable inclusion for such a cheap (or cheap-looking, anyway) device. Music gets some special attention, thanks to a shiny d-pad with embossed music controls, a dedicated player button, and the inclusion (seemingly) of in-ear buds. A VGA camera rounds out the hearty feast of mediocrity. No Dat. or price are given, but you know what they say — if you have to ask, well, odds are you can probably still afford it.
