Rogers lined up to get LG GT540, Neon 2?

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

The LG Neon’s spiritual successor actually bowed a few months ago (February, to be exact) as the GT350, but it seems like Rogers — which continues to carry the original Neon — is finally getting ready to unleash this thing as the Neon 2. Dummies for the new models are starting to roll into stores, it seems, alongside those of the GT540, a midrange Android-powered slate that we actually first saw all the way back at CES this year. Though official pricing and availability aren’t known, we wouldn’t expect either one to command much dough — and indeed, MobileSyrup is quoting a CAD $29.99 ($29) sticker price on a new three-year deal. We know which one we’d rather have.

Samsung Captivate coming to Rogers ’soon’

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

We’d figured the Captivate name was owned by AT&T, so color us surprised to see that the Galaxy S variant is finding its way to another carrier with the exact same branding and ID: Rogers up in Canada. Pricing and release date aren’t being offered up yet, but Rogers says that “more details will be available in the coming weeks,” so we’re hoping (perhaps foolishly) that we can look forward to an August launch. More on this as soon as we have it.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 coming to Rogers on April 15, free Bluetooth headset in tow

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

So who’s the first North American carrier to pick up Sony Ericsson’s high-end X10? AT&T? T-Mobile? Nope — it’s Canada’s Rogers, which is once again showing its superior Android prowess by getting first dibs on a phone that plenty of folks have been anticipating since its announcement late last year. Looks like April 15 has been locked in as the carrier’s date with destiny, but there’s more to the story than that: they’ll be tossing in a gratis Sony Ericsson MW600 Bluetooth headset with integrated FM radio if you’re an existing customer who’s eligible for a hardware upgrade. It’s actually a pretty deluxe deal — the MW600 retails for almost $100 — so if you were on the fence about whether to pull the trigger on the upgrade, this might be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
