Samsung Captivate coming to Rogers ’soon’

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

We’d figured the Captivate name was owned by AT&T, so color us surprised to see that the Galaxy S variant is finding its way to another carrier with the exact same branding and ID: Rogers up in Canada. Pricing and release date aren’t being offered up yet, but Rogers says that “more details will be available in the coming weeks,” so we’re hoping (perhaps foolishly) that we can look forward to an August launch. More on this as soon as we have it.

Verizon’s HTC Incredible coming April 25? (update: 29th in Best Buys?)

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

So there’s a rather engaging attention thread going down over in Phandroid’s forums that suggests we’ll finally see a launch of the hotly-anticipated HTC Incredible for Verizon later this month — the 25th, to be exact. That makes sense and we can totally believe it — particularly considering that it’s a Sunday, Verizon’s traditional launch day — and it’s further corroborated by a corporate email sent around to Verizon employees today implying that “new devices [are] launching really soon.” There’s a lot of interpretation you could do in this place; we don’t know what “Code Name: 6″ on the rocket-propelled cardboard box means, for example, but it’s pretty safe to argue that the Incredible will factor prominently into this campaign. About time, right?

LG GW620 Eve coming to Rogers, Android deftly avoids AT&T yet again

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

it seems like Canada’s Rogers will be among the first carriers in the world to offer LG’s first Android device, the GW620 Eve — and for North Americans, this is particularly notable since it means there’s a version of the device at retail that’ll theoretically work on Bell, Telus, and AT&T in addition to Rogers proper. We have no indication that AT&T’s about to actually pull the trigger on this thing (or on any Android device for that matter), though, so if you’re into the 5 megapixel AF cam, full QWERTY slide, and 7.2Mbps HSDPA capability, we’d recommend putting your unlockin’ pants on. For Rogers customers, we’re not seeing a release date just yet, but it seems like you’ll be paying a downright reasonable CAD $49.99 (about $47) on a three-year deal when it launches.
