October 2nd: mark it down ’cause Reuters says that’s the Dat. that Nokia will launch its Nokia Tube — aka, 5800 XpressMusic. According to a pair of industry sources, Nokia will launch the much anticipated, long overdue, S60 touchscreen device at a media and analyst contest in London — precisely as Pocket-lint’s source told us earlier. All that’s left at this time is for the invites to be distributed.

The T-Mobile G1 web site went up with a bunch of placeholders lat. last night, but it’s finally fully live after this morning’s big unveiling, and while it’s not precisely bursting with detailed info, there’s plenty of new pictures and details, including updated 3G coverage information. The first G1 ad has also surfaced — if you were tearing your hair out over Apple’s grammatically-questionable “funnest iPod ever” pitch, wait’ll you get a load of how “smarterer,” “connecteder,” and yes, “funnerer” the “most exciting phone in the history of phones” will make you. Sony Ericsson is taking the viral route on marketing with its forthcoming Xperia X1, launching a new “alternative reality thriller” centered around a mysterious character named Johnny X. There’s not much meat in the video the company is desperately trying to sneak into your daily YouTube diet, but at least we get to see action-packed chases, Memento-stealing plot points of the highest order, and one weird, seemingly backmasked utterance of “Johneeeeeeeeeee… X!” Hit the read link for the full clip, and check out another video after the break which helps to unravel the mystery.
