If you were a bit taken aback by the £40 ($59) monthly tariff required to take the G1 home for free, apparently you weren’t alone. T-Mobile has hacked that requirement down to £30 ($44) per month, and while the carrier itself has said that it’s not a reaction to poor sales, industry analysts are saying otherwise. In fact, a company spokesperson even states that it has chosen to “offer the device free with a £30 contract to make the pricing more competitive in light of recent device launches,” even though it is “well on track to achieve [its] sales forecasts.” Whatever the agenda, we’re all about getting phones into hands for less, so three cheers all around. Except for you early adopters… bummer, eh?

Not that you can’t snag an HTC Touch Diamond in Canada right at this time, but those loyal to Rogers are still waiting. As of this moment, we still can’t locate the WinMo 6.1-based handset on the outfit’s website, but MobileSyrup has it that the phone will soon be released for as low as $199.99 on a 3-year contract (with a minimum $45 voice / Dat. plan). Oddly enough, we’re also told that it’ll be available with voice-only plans for $449.99 (3-year), $549.99 (1 to 2-year) and $599.99 (month-to-month), while a data-only plan is available on the $499.99 handset (3-year). Weird, we know — which makes us all the more anxious to hear this gibberish from the horse’s mouth.

Black Friday’s turning into a Black Weekend for Moto and T-Mobile, it seems, with the just-released ZN5 already being discounted to a big, fat goose egg (after rebate, anyway) for the duration of the holiday weekend. That’s down from $99 at launch, and a dang good deal considering that you’re getting a WiFi-equipped phone with a 5-megapixel autofocus cam and xenon flash. We’re still not sure we can forgive the gray / purple scheme, but if we could be reminded of just how insanely little we shelled out for the phone every time we looked at it, we could probably let it slide.
