Hot on the INNOV8’s trails comes another 8-megapixel phone out of Samsung’s frighteningly fast-paced labs, this one dubbed M8800 Pixon (is it just us, or does that sound like a great name for an alien life form?). They’re really mixing it up in this place, too — unlike the S60-based INNOV8, the Pixon packs a full-on 400 x 240 touchscreen and settles for Samsung’s proprietary non-smartphone platform. The OS seems to be the only place it’s settling, though, since we’ve got triband HSDPA, GPS, an FM radio, microSD expansion — and, oh yeah, there’s the little matter of that whopping cam with face detection, geotagging, and WVGA video recording. Sadly there’s no WiFi on board, but it’d be just a little less useful than normal without an honest-to-goodness smartphone OS as your playground — and at least you’ve got global 3G on your side. it seems like we can expect shipments of this one sometime in November for €550 (about $805).

Samsung’s 8-megapixel beast is at this time ready for carrier-free consumption — but it’s plan to cost you an arm and a leg. Actually, it’ll probably cost you Bot. arms, at which point you’ll need to find a more creative (but still very worthwhile) technique for steadying that insane cam and navigating its S60 3.2-based interface. Just how much are we talking in this place? Well, for reference, you can nab the INNOV8 for as little as zilch on Orange, but Expansys’ UK outlet at this time has the little badasses in stock for £534.99 (which is basically a grand in US currency, give or take). Extreme, yes — but that strike against your credit limit’s plan to buy you 7.2Mbps HSDPA, GPS, and the envy of an N96 owner or two, so it might be worth the bankruptcy proceedings after all.

As a quick refresher — though, seriously, this should still be fresh on your minds — it packs the aforementioned 8 megapixel shooter, dual-band 7.2 Mbit HSPA, quad-band EGDE, 16GB internal memory, Bluetooth, FM radio, and even a blink and smile recognition mode when shooting. Pricing — on Mobile.co.uk — is set from £free on 18 months and they’ll even throw in a spare Nokia 1650 on pay as you go with a £10 credit. Not too shabby eh?
