LG Optimus Z now available in South Korea

Friday, July 30th, 2010

declare back in April, LG has at this time launched its so-called Optimus Z Android handset on a pair of South Korea carriers — SK Telecom and KT — bearing model numbers SU950 and KU9500, respectively. You’ve got the usual range of features like a 3.5-inch WVGA display, 5 megapixel cam, DivX compatibility, and support for LG’s neat Air Sync service, but what really sets these bad boys apart is something LG is aptly calling “On Screen Phone”: using Bluetooth, you’ll be able to see and interact with the Optimus Z’s screen from your PC, which is awesome when you’re too lazy to extract the thing from your pocket. It also offers something called “Drag & Shake,” which will let you transfer files between devices with a mere shake of the phone — something that conjures visions of Seoul residents meeting on the street and executing a series of odd gestures to exchange information. Paired with the announcement (which you can read after the break) is an affirmation of LG’s plans to launch an Android tablet as part of the Optimus series in the fourth quarter, which should be an engaging attention foil for the so-called Galaxy Tab. We’ll happily take one of each, of course.

Samsung Galaxy Teos and Naos rush in to relieve aging Spica

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Actually, calling the i5700 Galaxy Spica from Samsung “aging” isn’t entirely fair — the Android-powered handset was only introduced in November of last year. Thing is, Android moves at the pace of a speeding green robot — and considering Sammy’s reputation for flooding the market with hardware, we’re not surprised to see a couple replacements leak out already. The so-called Galaxy Teos and Naos (pictured left and right, respectively) both feature WQVGA displays and 3 megapixel cameras paired with Android 2.1 and TouchWiz; the latter is apparently an affordable Orange exclusive in your choice of black or white. Samsung certainly has the high end covered right at this time with the Galaxy S series, so if we had to guess, these little guys (and their various siblings around the world) will help fill in the midrange.

LG leaks in Brazil include Android-powered C710, cute T310

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

Brazil’s CelularCafe looks to have scored a four-pack of fresh leaks out of LG, most notably a new Android handset being called the C710 that looks suspiciously like Verizon’s Ally but apparently lacks a QWERTY keyboard, steps up to a 5 megapixel cam, and includes 802.11n WiFi, a new spec sheet line item that’s been picking up steam with higher-end smartphones as of late. Next, there’s the T300, a low-end full touchscreen device with a 2 megapixel cam that the site has taken to calling the Cookie Light; next to it lies the slightly-spiffier T310 (pictured) with a larger display and irresistibly cute styling. Finally, there’s a forgettable A130 clamshell with EDGE data and an FM radio with recording capability — needless to say, not the most exciting of the bunch. No word on when, or where, we might see any of these for sale.
