it seems like ASUS has more in store when it comes to touchscreen phones than that P552w we saw the other day. According to pictures leaked to the Mobile01 forums, the company is planning an Omnia-esque device that will feature a large (WQVGA or WVGA) touchscreen, a 5-megapixel camera, a trackball for non-touch navigation, and the predictable 3G radios / WiFi. Not much is known about the device at this point, though speculation is running rampant on the forum as to CPU specs and on-board memory. It’s likely this will be at least competitive in comparison to recent Window Mobile devices we’ve seen of this diversity, though nothing’s certain till we get word from ASUS… which we’re waiting patiently for, fellas.

An undeterred Sony Ericsson appears to have a handsome new slider on its way out in the near future — according to a slue of pictures leaked to the se4m forums — meant to sit beside the previously spied (and supposedly forthcoming) Remi. The device — dubbed the G705 — will feature GPS, WiFi, a 2.4-inch display, a 3.2 megapixel camera with flash, 128MB of internal memory, and will run atop the A2 software platform. There’s not a ton of info to go around right at this time, but if you hit the read link you can feast your eyes on a wide array of succulent photos. We’re including another shot after the break, just in case you don’t like traveling.

PhoneMag is reporting on a post at the Esato forums that mentions the N96 may well be getting itself an update before it even hits the shelves — this is a bit
friend of a friend stuff, so please think rumor while reading. Word has it that the lowly LED flash is being replaced with a
Xenon number which has some advantages in low-light situations — such as useful pictures. Of course, there’s continuously a rub, the dual-LED version that’s being replaced could have been useful for shooting video and its replacement isn’t plan to fill that void — and is a wee bit more power hungry. We guess we won’t know ’til Nokia lets us know, but we’ll do our
bes. to shake an answer out of them next week in Las Vegas. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts on which flash would make you the happiest N96 owner — or, perhaps we could have
Bot. please Nokia?
