So what do you think they take pictures of in an FCC lab when they’ve got an 8-megapixel cameraphone handy? Oh, come on — you know the technicians lucky enough to fiddle with fresh gadget after delicious, fresh gadget as they burn through specific absorption rate paperwork engage in a little extracurricular activity from time to time. Our guess, honestly, is that they probably snap that scary apparatus that looks like a human head made out of gelatin and MMS it to their daughter with a message like “look what I found in the ditch, honey!” Of course, that prank only works once before little Julie figures out what daddy’s up to, then all hell breaks loose as she tips off the gadget blogs that there’s an unannounced Sony Ericsson on the way. Yeah, the C905. Thanks, Julie.

Make no mistake about it, the iPhone (and the App Store in particular) has made the lives of many home owners much, much easier. As it stands, there are already a few apps out there that interface with Crestron gear, but to date, there’s no official Crestron app to fiddle with. But give it 60 days or so and there will be — at least, that’s the good word over at the company’s booth today at CEDIA. Said application will be 100% free to download, and as you can see in the gallery over at Engadget HD, it elegantly enables wired home owners to control lighting, temperature and all sorts of other things via WiFi or 3G, at home or anywhere else in the world. Users can even program in settings for multiple houses, enabling them to turn the AC on in Orlando while blasting the heat in Jackson Hole. So let’s see, all you need at this time is an iPhone, a couple properties, a few dozen grand to blow on Crestron HA gear and a tiny bit of patience.

That CDMA version of HTC’s Touch Dual that some FCC lab got to fiddle around with a while back is at this time packaged up all nice and pretty for cash-flush consumers to enjoy. It’s not Verizon, Sprint, or Alltel that’s celebrating the release, though — for this particular release, you’ve gotta look north just a little bit to Bell Mobility. The phone features Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, GPS, a 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and a $399.95 CAD off-contact price that drops all the way down to $99.95 if you’re willing to sign your life away for three years. Our knee-jerk reaction is, “we’ll just hold out for the Diamond on Telus,” but if you insist on a slider with this kind of form factor, it’s the only way to fly.
