Nokia C5 wastes no time getting FCC blessing

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Just days following its announcement, the FCC saw fit to grant Nokia’s low-end C5 all the regulatory approval it needs (well, not all, but some) to start hitting shelves stateside. Whether it’ll actually be sold in any official capacity in North America is another story altogether — but the prospect of a sub-$200 unlocked smartphone from any top-tier manufacturer is a difficult one to ignore; in any contest, this isn’t the model you’ll be seeing in American stores since it’s quadband GSM with 900 / 2100MHz 3G only. While you wait for manufacturing to ramp up, there’s a 91-page manual included with the filing for you to flip through, so you may as well get started.

Samsung S5620 ‘Monte’ possibly leaked, looks better than it sounds

Monday, February 1st, 2010

We know the FCC’s already gotten a gander at this thing, but the general public… well, that’s another story altogether. Daily Mobile has a bunch of shots of what it claims to be Sammy’s upcoming S5620 Monte, a silly name from a company that certainly hasn’t shied away from funny branding in the past (one quick look at the Corby or Rant should be able to verify that for you). Anyhow, we’re told to expect a TouchWiz-powered feature phone in this place with a 3-inch display, HSDPA, and a 3.5mm headphone jack which you can clearly see in some of the pictures. A quick look at the FCC filing also reveals WiFi, though the lack of WCDMA testing indicates that we won’t have 850 or 1900MHz 3G support — in other words, North Americans are out of luck as usual. If we had to guess, this one might get the covers pulled off at MWC next month.

Sony Ericsson’s Aino smartphone smiles for the FCC’s cameras

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

We’ve already seen Sony Ericsson’s new Aino smartphone (and its wireless headphones) pass through the FCC once before, but we’ve only just at this time been treated to the first proper photo shoot of the device, including the usual peek under the hood. What’s more, the new filing also offers yet more (fairly indisputable) evidence of the existence of a US 3G version of the phone, and those interested can get another look at the phone’s manual if you missed it last time around.
