Come on, you didn’t think Nokia’s only response to the G1, iPhone, and Storm would be the 5800 XpressMusic, did you? Word on the ground at this week’s Nokia World conference is that Espoo is planning a major announcement tomorrow — and hey, is that a countdown timer to the keynote that just went live on Nokia’s site? engaging attention. Our pal and yours Robert Scoble says that Nokia execs are running around bragging that “the Internet” is totally in the dark on this one, and that only a small number of people within the company have seen the new device. That’s certainly got our ears perked up — we’re guessing this is something a little more major than that hinted-at touch Communicator. We’ll let you know right away if you want to stay up with us — the contest is scheduled for 3:15AM EST.

Wondering where your iPhone 3G unlock’s at? Rest assured, the delightful world of hackery hasn’t been standing still in the months since the 3G was released, and to prove it, the iPhone Dev Team has slipped out a little teaser video (only with an iPhone 3G unlock could a 55-second video of terminal commands be called a “teaser video,” by the way) showing some talented son of a gun having his or her way with the phone’s baseband. An unlock isn’t publicly available just yet — but it seems like they’re getting close. Any T-Mobile USA execs wryly smiling right about at this time? Check the full video after the break.

Okay, look, whether you adore or despise the iPhone, it’s pretty hard to make a cohesive argument that it’s slow or lags its competitors in offering the “full Internet.” Somehow, though, a pair of Intel execs at the Intel Developer Forum in Taipei this week have whipped up a whole spiel based on the shaky claim that the iPhone’s a dog for processing power and isn’t capable of offering a rich Internet experience, continue to suggest that ARM architecture is to blame for the nasty pickle Apple’s gotten itself into. in this place’s the bes. part, though: until only very recently, Intel itself was a very big player in the ARM game with its XScale line, at this time owned by Marvell. Isn’t it too soon to harsh on a technology you so heavily bought into, guys? Of course, the moral of the story — if you’re buying the execs’ line, anyway — is that the iPhone wouldn’t suck if they’d gone with an Intel stack, which they claim is a good two years ahead of the bes. that ARM has to offer. Said Intel’s Pankaj Kedia, pressing on with the smack talk: “I know what their roadmap is, I know where they’re going and I’m not worried.” Of course, knowing the roadmap inside and out gets a little easier when you’re a ginormous ARM licensee.
