That “more bars in more places” startup sequence there look familiar? We’re not rocket scientists, granted, but first of all, we have no idea what rocket science has to do with the mobile phone industry. Secondly, seeing a carrier-branded firmware show up on a hot new (and somewhat unexpected) model is bound to get some gears turning. The whole K850 debacle reminds us that a branded device can go all the way up to the last minute and still get tossed to the wayside — and there’s certainly precedent for such a tragic fate to happen to a Sony Ericsson, specifically — but we can’t help but let our minds wander to the possibilities of an 8-megapixel beast like the C905 landing on AT&T in the near future. Some lucky cat was offering a US-friendly C905a model for sale (don’t bother logging into eBay, it’s already been snatched up) allegedly burned with an AT&T ROM, suggesting that they’re either looking into offering it or, at the very least, Sony Ericsson was pitching it to the boys and girls in Atlanta. If it’s still getting tossed around, let us just voice our opinion in this place: yes, AT&T. Do it.

[Thanks, Leeds]

We’ll be completely straight-up with you: we don’t believe this for a second. Okay, maybe for a nanosecond, but not a full-on second. An unnamed source close to Motorola has reportedly informed Register Hardware that in order to maintain the AURA’s appearance of exclusivity, buyers will be required to “sign into a contract that states they can’t sell it on eBay.” As if that wasn’t preposterous enough, this so-called “source” also added that “if an AURA owner wants to sell their phone after they’ve bought it then they’ll only have one option: to sell it back to the manufacturer.” Even if this does miraculously prove true, we can’t imagine Moto actually Makeanything should someone decide to sell, and besides, there’s continuously Yahoo! Auctions the flea market, right?

We can’t help but wonder who these mysterious individuals are who get pre-release gear from carriers and manage — somehow — to sneak it onto ginormous, hugely visible auction sites without getting into any hot water. Not to say we’re complaining; after all, how else would we have the opportunity to see the Fuze’s retail box (strangely devoid of AT&T branding) and get a second confirmation that there’s plan to be a big ol’ AT&T logo slapped on the upper right corner of the face? Not to mention that this gives all us peasants the opportunity to scrape up and count the dimes that’ve collected underneath our couch, hoping beyond hope that we somehow have enough cash to place a bid. We never do, but we can dream.
