The oft-bemoaned lack of certain, um… capabilities of the the iPhone is forcing individual companies to take desperate measures, it seems. It’s not entirely clear, but MacWorld says it’s confirmed with Telia that the Swedish-Finnish carrier’s developing an MMS-enabling app for the iPhone. MacWorld says the app will hit the market in the next two months, which is great news for everyone in Sweden. If you live anywhere else in the world, however, you’ll just have to continue on, rueing the day you ever encountered Apple’s MMS-spurning, copy and paste-hating handset.

Update: Though the source is Swedish, it’s entirely reasonable to believe that this’ll spread across all of Telia’s markets (and the world?). Thanks, commenters!

[Thanks, Martin]

Based on what we’ve learned about LG’s KC910 (or the Renoir, as it’s affectionately known), we had all ideas it was being reserved for corners of the globe not named u.a. But after taking one look at the specifications on the outfit’s Global web portal, we’re beginning to have second thoughts. Granted, this whole thing could just be a copy and paste blunder, but the 8-megapixel cellie sure shows up as having support for 850/900/1800/1900 GSM bands. Everything else looks par for the course, but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t a wee bit excited about the possibilities in this place. Hold tight — we’ll be keeping an ear to the ground for more details.

[Thanks, Kevin]

Apple has released the first beta of iPhone firmware 2.2 to developers, and we’re hearing that it’ll cause your phone to sprout wings, run Android in emulation, connect to fully-operational LTE and WiMAX networks all over the world, and bring world peace. Oh, and it’ll be able to copy and paste things you never dreamed possible, like ponies and happiness. On a more serious note, though, no one seems to have a firm grip on precisely what it adds yet — push notifications are high on the wishlist, as continuously — so we’ll keep you posted (and you do the same).
