Samsung’s definitely up to some serious strategery for a fall / winter assault on AT&T, starting with that funky a637 that just launched and continuing on through high-drama unverified information of Omnias, BlackJack IIIs, and pretty much everything in between. We’re starting to get some solid intel on the a867, anyway, which we’re told will be branded as the “Eternity” (though that name is still subject to change — they seem to waffle on that every few minutes) when it launches next month for something in the range of $150 on contract. it seems like an Omnia, but the similarities end there; it’s actually got closer ties to the F480 since it drops WinMo in favor of Sammy’s proprietary setup. Look for this one to be a head-to-head Vu competitor, thanks to MediaFLO support (no external antenna needed!), a 3.2-inch touchscreen, and an integrated 3-megapixel cam. It also does AGPS, includes an all-important 3.5mm headphone jack, and can swallow those new 16GB microSD cards, making it a decent media player all around (in theory, anyhow). It’s also said to have a “light pipe” at the bottom — basically a fancy status light that can be configured to show colors for new emails, text messages, and so on. Feeling a little heat on that Vu over there, LG?

That Knick isn’t even out yet, and it seems like AT&T might already be gearing up to stuff a competitor right alongside it in the lineup. Boy Genius Report is showing a picture (possibly a rendering — hard to tell) of a reasonably-spec’d QWERTY slider dumbphone from LG dubbed “Xenon” that is claimed to be wrapping up testing as we speak in preparation for a holiday launch. Rumored goodies include dualband HSDPA, a 2.8-inch QVGA display, 3-megapixel cam with VGA video recording, microSD expansion, and WiFi — so needless to say, we’re not really seeing a free-on-contract future for ‘er.

The lowly Moto V365 really can’t soldier on forever as AT&T’s only “rugged” (and we use that term loosely) clamshell; we’d thought the W760r was coming in to save the day, but sadly, it’s yet to materialize. So what’s a butterfingered AT&T subscriber to do? With any luck, the answer is to wait just a few more weeks, because Boy Genius Report claims that the Samsung a837 will launch in the mid-September timeframe with HSDPA, Video Share, Bluetooth, GPS, push-to-talk (naturally), and a 1.3-megapixel cam, making it AT&T’s first and only beefed-up 3G set. Yes, it could be prettier, but something tells us that’s not really the market AT&T’s going for in this place — then again, with de facto competitor Casio trotting out the Boulder in orange, maybe we’re off base on that one.
