Not long ago we uncovered a VX9600 brought to the FCC’s attention courtesy of LG, and naturally, whenever we hear about an LG model that starts with “VX,” we think but one thing: Verizon. That’s not too engaging attention — LGs pass through Verizon’s lineup all the frickin’ time — but what caught our eye with this one was the mention of a game pad and a detachable keyboard. Meanwhile, a tipster of ours recently received a survey from Verizon asking what they thought about a purely hypothetical phone with a 3-inch touchscreen and a series of detachable modules, including a keyboard, game pad, stereo speakers, and an “internet module” with integrated WiFi. Coincidence? Doubtful; if we had to guess, the VX9600 is this very device, for which Verizon is apparently considering the names “Phenom,” “Clip,” and “Versa.” We’ve got to admit, they’ve managed to stumble across a pretty unique concept in this place, and we’re curious to see how it actually works in practice. We’d seen some intel indicating that Verizon had been targeting a November launch for this thing as recently as September — but launch windows change insanely fast, so there’s really no telling when we’ll see this Frankenstein of a phone at this point.

[Thanks, Marcus]

We’re not sure if it’s coincidence or if there’s some concerted effort to push out overdue Windows Mobile 6.1 updates all of a sudden, but for whatever reason, Verizon’s XV6800 is joining the AT&T Tilt this week in offering an official upgrade package for the first time. Could’ve come a little quicker, honestly — Sprint beat ‘em out the door by a country mile — but let’s just thank our lucky stars that it finally happened, shall we?

So apparently a healthy exchange of cash and a captive audience glued to one of the biggest flicks of the year are all it takes to land early dibs on Nokia’s elusive Tube. The Tube — which will likely be branded either XpressMusic or XpressMedia and carry model number 5800 — represents Nokia’s first serious foray into the wide world of touchscreen smartphones (don’t even try to pull the Series 90 card, people), so there’s Truly a bit of buzz building around it. Just like there’s lots of buzz aroudn this new Batman joint. Coincidence? We think not!
