No need to defog your spectacles, what you just read there in the headline is the truth. Astoundingly enough, Motorola’s nearly archaic (in cellphone years, anyway) RAZR V3 is still the top-selling handset in the United States. Of course, it helps that it’s highly subsidized on practically every carrier from coast to coast, but we’re still a little stunned that it’s selling this well nearly 2.5 years after Moto moved its 50 millionth unit. The rest of the top five isn’t nearly as shocking, with Apple’s iPhone snagging the silver, RIM’s BlackBerry Curve grabbing the bronze, LG’s Chocolate at number four and the BlackBerry Pearl at five. With the original RAZR still selling so well, one would think Motorola could just tweak it slightly and issue a second iteration for even more windfall profits. Er, wait.

We’ve learned that mega-regional US Cellular has its sights set on an LG slider apparently dubbed the UX585 “Rythm” for a mid-November launch, featuring a 1.3-megapixel camera, FM transmitter a la Nokia N78 and LG Muziq, and an honest-to-goodness mechanical wheel — a key feature for a phone touting a music slant. The theme doesn’t stop there, though: the Rythm is also said to benefit from tweaking by Mark Levinson’s loving ears, a QVGA display, and something being called a “Touch Music Hot Key,” a trick-looking circular touchscreen in the middle of the wheel. Yeah, these guys might be a little behind the Chocolate curve in this place, but at least they’re coming out swinging. Look for it to run $129.95 featuring a $50 rebate for customers signing up for a Dat. plan for at least three months.

[Thanks, USCCGuy]

Wait, Verizon actually decided it would be a good idea to make official a cellphone today? Oh yeah, that’s right — the Chocolate 3 was declare with a Sunday availability Dat. today, but for those hoping to see the wrapper unfold a few days early, today’s your lucky day. The cats over at Laptop were able to acquire the new flip and test it out ever-so-briefly, and while initial impressions seemed rather positive, we reckon it’s the photos you’re really after. Dig into the read link for the full gallery.
