If you’re American, don’t even pretend you care about this. ‘Cause you don’t care about mobile TV at all, and we’ve got the facts to prove it. For those parked in Japan, though, you have every right to get jazzed. Softbank’s 1seg TV tuner / battery charger has finally been loosed on the carrier’s home turf, and the lucky cats over at DVICE were able to acquire one and give it a whirl. Setup was said to be a breeze, the 1seg pickup was crystal clear and the device itself was satisfactorily lightweight. Concerning downsides, the entire app is in Japanese, and even with the extra juice, watching TV on the go zapped the life out in around an hour with brightness maxed. Check the full writeup and unboxing gallery in the read link below.

Say, remember how there was supposed to be a Treo Pro coming to Sprint? Yeah, well, the time is drawing near for that to go down; odds are it could’ve happened sooner, but Sprint probably wanted to give its fairly fresh 800w a little breathing room before getting sunsetted in favor of the significantly more attractive Pro. The carrier is currently targeting January 25 for the model to be available in all channels for 9.99 — which we’re guessing (hoping) will come down to 9.99 or so after rebates, subsidies, and all that jazz. Also launching in January should be the Motorola i365IS — an even more rugged model of the already beefy i365 — and a pink version of the Instinct. If that’s not a veritable potpourri of phones covering every corner of the market, we don’t know what is.

[Thanks, anonymous tipster]

We’ve suspected for a while that LG would be bringing a version of its ultra-thin, 5-megapixel Secret slider to AT&T, and at this time, we’ve got some hard evidence to back it up. The latest rebate form for the carrier — dated December 26 to January 24, though that definitely doesn’t guarantee the phone will launch in that timeframe — lists a discount on the CF750 Secret along with the Motorola VA76r “Tundra,” a rugged flip that has already launched on Rogers and will be coming to do battle with Samsung’s beefy Rugby. Exciting times to be on AT&T, eh?

[Thanks, Kal]
