Motorola’s iDEN-powered i776 flip is at this time available through Sprint’s website, capping off a round of high-visibility launches with a black sheep in every sense of the word. Well, every sense except one — the i776 is actually a bizarre combo of brushed metal and brown, an acquired taste to say the least (not unlike the network on which the i776 runs). There’s no cam in this place, but it packs GPS, Bluetooth, speakerphone, and that retro-fabulous stub antenna that’ll make all your friends wonder why they’ve been unceremoniously obsoleted on virtually every other phone sold today. Get it at this time — if you dare — for $79.99 on contract.

Wow, that was one hell of a wait, wasn’t it? Some eight months after its February announcement, X1s are finally available for sale in some parts of the world — and naturally, any retail availability comes with the distinct possibility of a properly-documented unboxing. The packing materials don’t look like they’re anything terribly special, but to the Windows Mobile faithful of the world, the contents certainly are. Ain’t that black, brushed metal casing awfully purdy?

We’re still trying to get used to this crazy one-letter, four-digit naming convention Samsung has suddenly decided to move to after countless years of the SGH / SCH / SPH convention, but at least they’re easing the transition a bit with production that don’t suck immensely — at least, not for their price range. Meet the S3600, an admittedly low-end flip on account of its non-3G radio, meager 30MB of onboard memory, and 1.3-megapixel camera that still manages to pull off an upscale look with a liberal application of brushed metal. The spec sheet rounds out nicely with an FM radio, Bluetooth 2.0, and microSD expansion — but the nicest feature of all might be the price, which looks like 4,000 Czech crowns (about $220) unlocked when it launches next month.
