AmazonWireless selling Samsung Captivate for a penny on contract

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

This already happened to the Vibrant, but if you’re in the market for a Galaxy S of one sort or another and you’re more of the AT&T type (and you can’t be bothered to do a little hacking), you might want to take a look at Amazon’s mobile store right at this time where they’ve got the Captivate listed for a big, fat cent on a new two-year contract. Of course, Amazon (and other third-party wireless retailers) pull these stunts all the time — and considering that AT&T is still charging $200 upfront for this thing, we love ‘em for it.

In Google’s absence, HTC starts hawking Nexus One accessories

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

It’s bad enough that Google decided to stop selling the Nexus One directly — especially since the AT&T-friendly 850 / 1900MHz version is nigh impossible to find at this time — but what sucks even more is that existing owners have been in peril of being left high and dry for accessorizing their increasingly rare little gems. Thankfully, the Nexus One’s manufacturer has stepped in to fill the void, offering the full range first-party goodies including the car dock, desktop dock, holster, and rear covers in a range of eye-popping colors. We’re not seeing batteries in this place, but… you know, there’s continuously the gigantic aftermarket option.

Samsung Flight II and Eternity II official for AT&T

Monday, August 9th, 2010

At AT&T, it’s not just about the Xperia X10 today — at least, not if Samsung has anything to say about it. Sammy’s introduced a pair of sequels in the last few hours, the Flight II (pictured left) and the Eternity II (pictured right), both previously-rumored devices that re-up the company’s media-centric dumbphone strategy both with and without physical QWERTY keyboards. Choice is good, isn’t it? In the case of the Flight II, you get a 2 megapixel camera, memory expansion to 16GB, a full HTML browser, a switch from the original Flight’s portrait QWERTY to landscape, and support for AT&T’s questionably-useful Video Share service; the Eternity II takes away the keyboard but lets you scale up to 32GB of additional storage, includes “smart gestures” for the touchscreen display, and carries over the original Eternity’s support for AT&T’s FLO-based Mobile TV. The Flight II’s available right at this time as a RadioShack exclusive for $50 on a two-year deal, while the Eternity II swings into AT&T stores on the 15th of the month for an unannounced price. Follow the break for the full release.
