If you don’t have a need for a physical keyboard — or you’re just not willing to wait long enough for the Vivaz Pro to come to market — then you might want to take a gander at Sony Ericsson’s plain-Jane Vivaz at this time that it’s available from Vodafone in the UK. The Symbian-powered slate features a 3.2-inch WVGA display, 8.1 megapixel still camera, and 720p video capture with continuous autofocus — a truly unique feature for a cameraphone at any price. As is usually the case with these guys, you’re able to score the Vivaz for a big, fat naught on contract as long as you’re willing to pony up at least £30 (about $46) a month on your plan.

Just days following its announcement, the FCC saw fit to grant Nokia’s low-end C5 all the regulatory approval it needs (well, not all, but some) to start hitting shelves stateside. Whether it’ll actually be sold in any official capacity in North America is another story altogether — but the prospect of a sub-$200 unlocked smartphone from any top-tier manufacturer is a difficult one to ignore; in any contest, this isn’t the model you’ll be seeing in American stores since it’s quadband GSM with 900 / 2100MHz 3G only. While you wait for manufacturing to ramp up, there’s a 91-page manual included with the filing for you to flip through, so you may as well get started.

Guys, guys, look: unboxing is our job. We know it’s fun and we know it brings eyeballs to your site, but we think your customers would be better served if you just concentrated on shipping the mighty X10 rather than teasing them with a product they can’t yet have. Apparently, Sony Ericsson just took delivery of its first commercial small part of its inaugural Android device, so to kick off the occasion in style, a couple staffers have unboxed them in glorious high definition for us — both the white and black versions, mind you — using none other than their own Vivaz to maximize the meta factor. There’s not a lot to the video, really (even the captions are disappointingly accurate), but if you’re truly desperate for X10 eye candy as you wait for the retail launch, it’s worth a gander. Full video after the break.

Looking for a rightful successor to your at this time-aging SCH-R211? Samsung and Cricket would like you to look no further than the SCH-R100 Stunt, a dead ringer for the candybar of the same name that launched on MetroPCS back in December of last year. It turns out this is a little bit more than your average ultra-basic phone, though: Cricket says this device is introducing Bluetooth to the lowest tier of its lineup, a particularly useful feature at this time that using the handset while driving is a no-no in many jurisdictions. It’s available at this time (contract free, naturally) for $99.99.

Indeed, the KH5200 “Andro-1″ is little more than a remix of the GW620 QWERTY slider — a phone known as Eve to its Canadian buyers — with a 3-inch HVGA display and 5 megapixel cam on board. It’s said the phone could launch on KT as soon as next week for around 600,000 won ($531), but what might make it more palatable is chatter that they’ll get the sucker down to a nice, round 0 won on plans of 45,000 won or higher. If true, that would make the Andro-1 KT’s first free-on-contract smartphone, ushering in an exciting new era of indentured servitude for Korea’s wireless subscribers. Welcome to the club, guys!

Unwilling or unable to wait for the next major trade show (CTIA in two weeks), LG showed off a king’s ransom worth of new devices to a bunch of journos in the Netherlands this week; most of it appears to be pretty low-end fare, but there were a few notables in the lot. First up, the Cookie Music extends the Cookie brand with Dolby Mobile tech on board (something LG’s been Makepretty frequently lately), a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a tweaked design that looks a little more futuristic than Cookies of old. Viewty was starting to feel like a forgotten marque, but not so — we’ve at this time got a GT400 Viewty Smile in this place featuring a 5 megapixel cam and scratch-resistant display. As QWERTY dumbphones go, we’d thought that the GT350 was the KS360’s true successor, but not so — there’s a new KS365 in the mix with revised styling but seemingly very little in the way of upgraded specs. The rest of the lot looks like pretty forgettable stuff — and seeing how LG operates, they’ll all be forgotten and replaced with revised models within a few months’ time anyhow. You know, Circle of Life and all.

Want to know how to sell Motorola’s CLIQ XT for T-Mobile in 60 seconds? Look no further than this pamphlet that’s circulating at this time that the carrier is (well, probably is) just days away from release, where we learn all about its 3.1-inch display, touch controls, Flash Lite support (avert your eyes, CLIQ users), and pinch-and-zoom browser navigation, all paired up with a 5 megapixel camera and that love-it-or-hate-it Blur skin atop Android 1.5. Between that little pitch and the gallery down below, we figure it’ll take you about 60 seconds to finish flipping through the whole mess — so are you sold, or what?

[Thanks, anonymous tipster]

On top of a promise that it’ll “rectify some issues, [and] optimize performance even further,” Sony Ericsson’s high-end Symbian set gets WVGA video recording (though VGA remains the default), integrated picture uploads to Facebook and videos to YouTube, DLNA support, sundry “UI improvements,” and firmware integration of the Facebook app that’s already available on PlayNow. Not bad for a phone that Sony Ericsson could’ve easily abandoned in favor of support for the Vivaz — but probably not enough to totally shake the phone’s tarnished rep this far into the game.

US Cellular’s version is the same thing (heck, it’s even the same color) with a 1.3 megapixel camera, 2.2-inch 176 x 144 display, four-row QWERTY keyboard, and memory expansion up to 16GB via microSD, perfect for the on-board MP3 player (and if you’re not a music kind of person, it’ll take you a good long while to fill up 16GB worth of storage 1.3 megapixels at a time). Pricing and availability haven’t yet been declare, but we’d expect it to be pretty easy on the pocketbook.
