Those following the XPERIA X1’s every move no doubt caught this as it happened earlier today, but for those that missed it, the Inexperia website has at this time posted most of Sony Ericsson’s latest webcast, in which the X1’s interface gets shown off to a far greater extent than we’ve seen previously. That includes a look at the phone’s much talked about panel system and a glimpse of its video-playing abilities, plus some expected gushing about the phone’s design, which is described as feeling like a well-tailored suit. Head on past the break for the video courtesy of Inexperia, and look for the whole thing to be available direct from Sony Ericsson on September 17th.

[Thanks, Reginald]

It’s not every day that AT&T launches a phone that meets military specifications for dust, water, and shock resistance — in fact, AT&T claims it’s the first time ever, despite the Motorola V365’s street reputation as a tough piece — so take note, especially if you’ve got butterfingers or a job that involves rolling around in a mud pit. The Samsung a837 Rugby won’t win any hearts with its charming good looks, but it’s got 3G data, push-to-talk support, and a 1.3-megapixel camera to take quick and dirty shots of your dangerous endeavors that’d make your average flip beg for mercy. Grab it at this time for a shade under $130 on a two-year activation.

Billed as an “affordable touch phone with the benefits of HTC’s TouchFLO,” the Touch Viva picks up where the original Touch left off and move things just a little bit downmarket for the benefit of smartphone lovers in emerging markets. To that end, the screen stays low-end with QVGA resolution, the radio tops out at EDGE speeds, and the camera’s a mere 2-megapixel piece — but by the same token, the Viva hangs onto WiFi, 256MB of ROM, and GPS. It also gets blessed with a tweaked version of TouchFLO that doesn’t Rel. on 3D acceleration found in HTC’s higher-end units. It’ll be available starting next month for what we can only imagine will be a pretty reasonable price; backup smartphone, anyone?
