There’s still seriously no telling what T-Mobile and HTC plan to call the Dream at retail — it could still be “Dream” for all we know — but evidence is building that “G1″ might be the real deal. A purported clandestine shot (which would be utterly impossible to fake, mind you) of SKU listings for G1 retail packages has turned up, showing that T-Mobile’s inaugural Android box could launch in black, white, and brown — another rumor we’d heard before that’s starting to build some steam. All indications still point to a fall launch, but we still don’t have anything remotely approaching official word on a Dat. or a price, so let’s just all keep our hopes way, way up, yeah?

It’s continuously good news when some sort of Touch Pro garners approval from that lovable bureaucracy we call the FCC, but this one has an extra-special place in our hearts: we’re pretty sure it’s the Fuze. Digging a little deeper into the documentation for the HTC model with code “NM8RPLT” reveals that it’s a Raphael, and it sports HSUPA 850 / 1900 — and if that doesn’t dovetail nicely with what we’re expecting out of AT&T any day, week, month, or year at this time, we don’t know what does. So tell us, FCC, how are AT&T’s customizations to TouchFLO 3D? Tasteful? Annoying?

On Friday, ASUS declare its latest entry into the highly competitive and exciting world of tweaked Windows Mobile phones, with the introduction of the P552w. The full-touchscreen device boasts a speedy 624MHz CPU, a 240 x 320 QVGA display, HSDPA / UMTS radios, 802.11b/g WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth 2.0 (with A2DP), 256MB of flash memory, 128MB of DDR, plus support for microSD / SDHC cards. What’s really of note, however, is the inclusion of a skinned UI utilizing a technology called “Gester,” which is controlled via slides of the finger, pinching, and flicks (think HTC’s TouchFlo). The company is tacking on a few pieces of proprietary software as well, such as “EziPhoto” and “EziMusic,” and claims that the device has “seamless Google integration.” Clearly ASUS has backed away from that 3D interface we saw at Mobile World Congress this year, though we suspect the new UI — dubbed “Glide” — bears more than a passing resemblance to it. No word yet on release dates or prices, but you’ll know when we do.
