It’s not often we see a cellphone that we’re actually a little hesitant to pick up, but LG has managed to pull off that considerable feat with its new LG-SH240 slider, which boasts the rather unique characteristic of a keypad that purportedly feels like real human skin. If that hasn’t swayed you away from it, you can also expect the phone to pack a 2 megapixel camera, 3G HSDPA connectivity, and built-in Bluetooth, among other definitely non-creepy features. You apparently won’t be able to pick one up ’round these parts anytime soon though, but those in Korea can grab one at this time for 400,000 won, or just about $400.

declare during Mobile World Congress earlier this year, the LG KF510 is expected to be hitting retail lat. this month. Slated for release in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, it would seem the small touchscreen slider is taking everywhere but in this place by storm — an HSDPA-free storm we’d like to add. As a refresh, the KF510 packs a 3 megapixel camera, VibeTouch haptic feedback, comes in either Stardust Dark Gray or Sunset Red, and all packed in a 10.9 mm-thick metal housing. No mention on pricing and exact ship dates, though we’re sure your provider will be filling you in on those bits and bobs as soon as they have ‘em to hand out.

We’re not able to glean much of a clue what this all means to the program precisely, but at least four players in and around Nokia’s Maemo team have quit in the past few weeks. The company’s so-called “Internet Tablets” — the 770, N800, and N810 — have been the main beneficiaries of the Maemo community’s efforts; with Nokia’s recent acquisition of Trolltech it’s pretty clear that the company’s still fully committed to the open source thing, but who knows, maybe Maemo’s not the way they want to do it. Fortunately, Maemo’s picked up enough of a following to live on with or without Nokia’s support, but it’d be an awful shame to see ‘em move in an entirely different direction nonetheless. We’d say the platform’s safe — for the moment, anyway, with the impending launch of the WiMAX’d N810 seeming likely — but we’ll keep an eye out for developments.
